You need an active registration with the Regional Nursing Council (COREN) in your state. Without it, no agency will agree to evaluate your credentials.
OUR STORY
Lumerly was born from a very specific frustration.
Studying for an exam in English, about a healthcare system different from your own, with question formats you have never seen, after a 12-hour shift. That is the daily reality of the Brazilian nurse who decides to migrate.
Lumerly is the platform we wished we had had at that moment.
Not to promise easy approval. To organize the journey, explain the reasoning, respect the Portuguese of those who are learning, and keep the exam's English at the center.
BEFORE THE PRODUCT
What happened before Lumerly.
The gap was not a lack of effort from the student. It was the lack of a platform designed for the Brazilian context.
Before Lumerly, there was a frustration that came up again and again in conversations with Brazilian nurses: validating a diploma through a credentials agency, taking the TOEFL or IELTS, obtaining the Authorization to Test, sitting the NCLEX in São Paulo or in the United States, applying for VisaScreen, pursuing a visa, and starting to work in an American hospital. Everything felt important, expensive, and disconnected.
Every step has its pitfalls. Most of the available courses treat each pitfall as an isolated item. Almost no one brings it all together into a clear path, in Portuguese, with a practice platform that speaks to the reality of the Brazilian nurse. That gap is Lumerly.
THE NAME
Lumerly comes from lumen.
Light, clarity, understanding. The name carries the promise of taking confusing content and helping you see it clearly.
Lumerly comes from lumen, the Latin word for light. In English, the suffix ly turns a word into a manner: clearly, brightly, sharply. Lumerly points to studying in a luminous way, with clarity.
The name is not decoration. It describes the moment we look for inside each question: the instant when the student stops memorizing an answer choice and finally understands the reasoning. The light turns on. Mastery begins.

Lumerly comes in at the NCLEX preparation stage, but understands that this exam is part of a larger crossing.

Sworn translation
Your diploma, academic transcript, and COREN registration must be translated by a sworn translator and authenticated. The cost usually ranges from R$ 500 to R$ 2,000, depending on volume, the notary office, and the requirements of the process.

Credentials evaluation
You choose an approved agency, such as CGFNS, JSILNY, ERES, or another accepted by the state. It compares your Brazilian education with the American standard. The cost is usually between $350 and $600, and the process can take 3 to 6 months.

English exam
Many processes require the TOEFL, IELTS, OET, or an equivalent exam. The TOEFL and IELTS usually cost around $220 to $250 per attempt. Required scores change by service, Board, and immigration goal, so the official source always beats group rumors.

Application to the Board of Nursing
You choose a US state to get licensed in. Florida, Texas, California, New York, and Massachusetts come up frequently, but each Board has its own rules.

Authorization to Test
When the Board approves your eligibility, you receive permission to schedule the NCLEX. The validity window is usually between 90 and 365 days, depending on the state, and must be respected.

NCLEX-RN
The exam is taken at a Pearson VUE center, including in São Paulo, in Vila Olímpia at Rua Helena 260, when availability allows. It is an adaptive exam, in English, lasting up to 5 hours.

VisaScreen
VisaScreen confirms education, licenses, English, and nursing knowledge for occupational visa purposes. For many paths, it is mandatory.

Visa
The path may involve an EB-3 with a sponsor or an EB2-NIW for qualified professionals. This stage requires your own immigration planning and specialized guidance.
Estimated total cost of the journey: $12,000 to $20,000.
The range shifts depending on the state, the agency, the exchange rate, the number of attempts, translations, documents, travel, and immigration strategy. Who explains all of this to you? Usually no one. Lumerly comes in exactly where it hurts most: NCLEX preparation. But we understand that this step belongs to a much larger journey.
