The NCLEX-RN is the licensing exam that Boards of Nursing use to assess whether a person is ready to practice safely as a Registered Nurse. For the Brazilian nurse, it is usually a central step after the credentials evaluation and before the final license in the chosen state. The exam is taken in English and measures clinical judgment, patient safety, pharmacology, physiological care, and professional communication. The Next Generation NCLEX took effect on April 1, 2023, to measure clinical judgment more realistically. The exam began using case studies and item types that simulate decision-making, prioritization, and interpretation of clinical data. This reduced the weight of practice based on multiple choice alone.
